If there’s a franchise that is more suited for a survival/MMORPG video game than Dune then I don’t know of it. Funcom, veteran game developer in the MMO space, announced just such game a while ago called Dune: Awakening. Now they’ve announced a release date. Dune: Awakening will be released on May 20th, 2025. Along with the announcement we got a nice little trailer and more info about various editions that will be for sale. I’ll discuss all those below, but one thing is for sure, it’s time to get excited. Open world game you can play with friends that lands you on Arrakis is just three months away!

Dune: Awakening Pre-Order Information

As I’ve said, Dune Awakening is coming to a PC near you on May 20th, with Xbox and Playstation release dates still waiting to be announced. Standard edition will cost $49.99/€49.99. You are not able to place a preorder just yet, but when you do you’ll be getting the Terrarium of Muad’Dib. It’s a decoration item for your base that houses the little Arrakis mouse, from which the name Muad’Dib comes from. Other editions of the game and what they’ll contain have not been announced yet. I’m sure more info will follow real soon.

What I do know is that you can download and play around with the Dune: Awakening character creator right now on Steam . This ~18GB download will let you create a character three months in advance. You’ll be picking your caste, planet of origin and your mentor. Created characters can be imported into the final game upon launch. You’ll also get a redeemable code that will let you get a Frameblade knife skin once the game launches. There’s also a benchmark mode that will let you test your PC to see if you can run the game with satisfactory game settings or you’ll need to upgrade.

You can watch the release date announcement trailer below. Personally, I can’t wait to meet Shai-Hulud in game and offer my fealty to the maker and his blessed water.
