Akuma Finally Has Release Date in Street Fighter 6

Akuma is one of the most legendary characters in the Street Fighter franchise, right under household names like Ryu and Chun-Li. In many ways, he’s more imposing and terrifying than most other villains. Except maybe Gill, who is the absolute bane of my existence, but that’s besides the point. Capcom have been teasing Akuma for a little while now, so the fan base has been waiting for a launch date with bated breath. Well, the time is almost nigh, my friends.

Akuma Finally Has Release Date in Street Fighter 6

Akuma is Coming to Street Fighter 6 in Late May 2024

More specifically, the demonic fighter will make his appearance on May 22nd, 2024, according to the trailer (which you can check out below). Naturally, you’ll have to pay if you want to play as Akuma. You need to have either the Deluxe Edition or the Ultimate Edition of the game, or own the Year 1 Ultimate Pass or the Year 1 Character Pass. My goodness, how far fighting games have fallen into greed. Be that as it may, Akuma also comes with his hellish stage, called Enma’s Hollow. That’s his den, where he obsessively trains to master the Satsui no Hado.

Also, you can look forward to new outfits to all Year 1 characters, aka Akuma, Ed, Rashid and AKI. And considering that Street Fighter 6 came out last June, those are probably all the extra characters we’ll be getting this season. Four seems like a nice, round number. As for how Akuma plays, I honestly haven’t spent much time with SF6 to really analyze his moves in any meaningful detail. It seems to me like it’s his usual savage self; hitting like a truck while still being relatively fast. I recommend taking a look at the gameplay trailer to see for yourself. And to see Akuma rock his original design, which is pretty cool.
