Megaloot Demo, Playtest and Announcement Trailer Now Live
Megaloot describes itself as an “inventory management roguelite RPG,” where the loot is also consumables. By that, I mean various weapons, armor pieces, etc can be consumed to grant you various different attacks, elemental effects, status buffs and so on. Which, I have to say, does sound pretty interesting. You have to balance what you have equipped, what’s in your inventory, and what you’re prepared to sacrifice in order to emerge victorious from each encounter. Let’s get into some more detail, shall we?
So, the core draw to Megaloot are the mechanics. The combat is turn-based, and you have to find the right answer to each monster. While it can be as simple as clobbering them over the head enough times, but for the most part, you’ll have to strategize by applying different effects, types of attacks, buffs and debuffs, etc. That’s where collecting loot and consuming it comes in. Which loot will you part for victory? The developers offer over one hundred different pieces of loot, plus twenty-four stats you can have, so that your character is just to your liking.
Of course, because it’s a roguelike, some of those upgrades you get might be permanent. I don’t know, I haven’t played the demo yet. But what we do know is that you can unlock other character, which presumably have different starting stats. But what attracts me most are the streamlined, old-school visuals. It’s looks like those early, early first-person RPGs, which is really charming in its own way.
If what you’ve read so far seems like something you’d like, check out the trailer below to see the game in action. And if you want a taste of what Megaloot has to offer, head to the Steam page and play through the demo. You can also wishlist the game and request access to the closed playtest. There is no exact release date for the full version just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
