Dicefolk Coming to Nintendo Switch Soon
Dicefolk is the perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch. For one, the somewhat slept-on rogue-like deck-builder boasts a gorgeous, colorful, cartoonish art style. On top of that, it’s a game where you collect monsters called Chimeras. And it’s easy to pick up and play; ideal to bring with you and play a couple of rounds on your commute, or trip, or in the waiting room, whatever. What more could you want from a game on the go? Way better than playing Candy Crush or something, I’ll tell you that much.
The biggest selling point of Dicefolk is its combat system. The idea is, you roll dice, and depending on what they land on, those are the actions that will happen in a specific order. Now, the catch is that you control not only your team, but also your opponents. This adds an extra layer of strategy, because you have to make sure your fighters get the best synergies while tanking the enemy turns as best you can.
And, of course, there’s the collecting of over one hundred Chimeras, all of whom have really cool designs. Last, but not least, we have the story. It’s basic, but it works like a charm. An evil wizard has forced all the Chimeras to turn on humans, leading humanity to the brink of extinction. It falls to our heroine, Alea (Latin for dice), to save the world. Gotcha, that’s all I need to know!
Dicefolk originally launched on Steam on February 27th, 2024, to really good reviews. If you want to get an idea of what the game is like, check out the trailer below. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact release window for the Switch version; all we know is that it’s coming “soon.” Keep an eye out for it. Oh, and there’s also a free demo on Steam, so give it a whirl. See if you like it.
