Who is Messmer The Impaler in Elden Ring?
The recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Trailer raises many questions, one of which is – just who is Messmer The Impaler in Elden Ring? This new character was very prominently showcased in the trailer, so it’s obvious that he is going to play a very large part in the expansion’s storyline. And, as the lore of FromSoftware games is so rich and complex, this has left many fans wondering what this character is all about. Specificially, who he is, and could he even be the often-mentioned-but-never-actually-seen Miquella from the base game. Here’s everything we know about Messmer.
Elden Ring Who is Messmer The Impaler?
Note that, as of right now, we don’t know for certain who – and what – Messmer is and what his role is going to be in Shadow of the Erdtree. Which means that this is all just pure speculation at this point. However, going by the trailer, there are several things that we can be sure of. The first of these is that he is almost certainly a Demigod that we will be able to fight. In battle, he uses his huge spear, as well as some sort of fire magic. His name – Messmer the Impaler – consists of two possible hints towards what he potentially is. Messmer is likely an allusion to mesmerizing – a type of hypnosis – which is fitting with all of the snakes that surround him. And his monicker of the Impaler could be because of some connection to Vlad the Impaler, the historical inspiration for Count Dracula.
Is Messmer Miquella in Shadow of the Erdtree?
Again, this is, of course, a possiblity. Though, it’s just as probable that Messmer is not Miquella. There are two theories as to his identity. The first one is that he is a corrupted form of Miquella. After all, Miquella is best known for his flowing golden hair, and Messmer’s hair is red. This leads to the other theory – that Messmer is the progeny of Miquella and Mohg, Lord of Blood. This would explain why Messmer has red hair, while still having the long arms that are protruding from Miquella’s cocoon. Whatever the case may be, one thing is certain – there is definitely a connection between Messmer and Miquella.
