CD Projekt Red Announces Start of work on Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Codenamed Project Orion
After finishing up work on Cyberpunk 2077 and its award-winning expansion pack, Phantom Liberty, developers CD PROJEKT RED have set their sights on the next game in the Cyberpunk series. Codenamed Project Orion, the game is still in early stages of development, and it is being worked on at CD PROJEKT RED North America. And while most details concerning this follow-up to CP2077 are still kept under wraps, a large number of high-profile devs – both returning and new to the project – have recently been confirmed to be working on the game.
Returning CDPR Veterans and Newcomers Join Project Orion Development
Good news for all Cyberpunk 2077 fans, as some of the most prominent developers of the original game, as well as the Phantom Liberty DLC, are also working on Project Orion. These include Gabriel Amatangelo (Game Director), Paweł Sasko (Associate Game Director), Igor Sarzyński (Creative Director), Andrzej Stopa (Cinematic Director), Kacper Niepokólczycki (Environment Art Director), Sarah Grümmer (Acting Lead Quest Designer), and Kacper Kościeński (Engineering Director). These developers have now joined the team that is based in the new CDPR studio in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
This team is also going to include several notable industry professionals with years of work on notable AAA projects. Dan Hernberg is joining as Executive Producer. His past projects include New World, Apex Legends, and Diablo III. Ryan Barnard, Gameplay Director at IO Interactive, is going to be Design Director on Project Orion. Alan Villani, best known for his technical direction on Mortal Kombat games, is the new Engineering Director. Anna Megill has worked on games such as Control, Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Guild Wars 2, and many more, and she is the Lead Writer on Project Orion. Speaking of writing, Alexander Freed, former Lead Writer at BioWare, is also going to lend his writing talents to the game.
