Explore a Dystopian Megastructure in 2D Metroidvania Cookie Cutter

As someone who’s genuinely excited about humanity’s future and reads a lot about futurism, I love megastructures. However, the one we find in Cookie Cutter is not the kind I would love to see in our future. Instead of helping humanity to expand and explore the vast expanse of space, the one we have here is like a nightmarish combination of industrial waste landfill and lifeless metallic city, in two words – a dystopian hellscape. In this fully hand-drawn 2D Metroidvania, we play as Cherry.

Cherry is one of the few surviving Android workers (or we should say – slaves), found by a renegade mechanic called Raz. Upon Raz setting her free, Cherry will embark on a rage-induced mission of revenge. Namely, her main goal will be to bring justice to the mysterious “egomaniac leader”. However, she will also want to find her creator, Doctor Shinji Fallon. Apparently, our Android here consider her “the love of her life” and will stop at nothing to find and save her.

The game’s developers describe Cookie Cutter as “unabashedly irreverent, violent, and risqué”. The studio, Subcult Joint, promises an action-packed 2D platformer that “breaks tropes and bones.”. Here are some of the key features of the game:

  • A story of an android hero who becomes a ruthless killer and faces outrageous foes.
  • A hand-drawn sci-fi dystopian world crafted with passion and care.
  • Huge bosses, disgusting insects, and hostile robots.
  • Crazy weapons, special moves, and bloody gory finishers.
  • A smooth and stylish fighting experience in a Metroidvania style.

In my free time, I dream of the day when I will finally start clearing my Steam backlog.
