Fix NBA 2K24 Crashing & Freezing on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X

Before we jump to potential solutions, a fair warning. If you are a veteran NBA 2K player, you are probably well familiar with the fact that the basketball game almost always launches in a less-than-ideal state, to say politely. Thus, no matter what you do, chances are high that the game will continue crashing until the developers fix the issue. In addition, keep in mind that there are two versions of the game; the next-gen version on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the Old-Gen version on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Hence, different issues may appear on different platforms, and solutions might not be the same for every platform. With that said, let’s see what you can do in order to mitigate NBA 2K24 Crashing and freezing as much as you can.

Reduce the Number of Blocked Users Below 100 (PS5)

There is a glitch on the PS5 consoles that results in the crashing of the game if you have more than 100 blocked users on the PlayStation Network. That’s definitely a big number of blocked users. However, if you are one of the players with these numbers, consider unblocking a couple of users until you reach 99. This should fix the crashing issue.

Use Cloud Save and Update System Software(Xbox Series X/S)

On Xbox Series X/S, players report that not having the latest version of the console’s system software results in instability and frequent NBA 2K24 crashing issues. Hence, ensure that you have the latest version of the software. Finally, some players report that Xbox Cloud Save is more stable than using local save files, resulting in less freezing with NBA 2K24.

Update GPU drivers (PC)

In many situations crashing and freezing in NBA 2K24 can be a sign of various GPU issues. Obsolete drivers might cause many problems, such as shoddy performance and instability. To prevent this, install the latest drivers either via your GPU software or directly from the links below:

Disable Overlays and Turn Off 3rd-Party Apps (PC)

When gaming on a PC, it is usually wise to close any nonessential third-party apps that are working in the background. Many of them are known to cause conflicts with video games, in addition to eating your PC’s resources. This is particularly the case for apps that have overlays in-game. This includes Discord overlay, Steam overlay, NVIDIA overlay, and other similar apps. Turn them off, and see if it helps.

Verify NBA 2K24 Files Integrity (PC)

Finally, oftentimes games might not install properly. This can result in some files being either corrupted or missing entirely. In turn, this causes constant NBA 2K25 crashing and freezing issues. To thwart this, make sure to verify the game files on Steam and the Epic Game Store:

  • Steam
    • Right-click on NBA 2K24 in your Steam library
    • Select “Properties…”
    • Select the “Local Files” tab
    • Click on the ” Verify integrity of game files..”
    • Let Steam do it’s work
    • When complete, restart your PC
    • Launch Steam, and start NBA 2K24
  • Epic Game Store
    • Open the EGS launcher.
    • Find NBA 2K24 in your library.
    • Click on the three dots icon.
    • Select “Manage” in the drop-down menu.
    • Click the “VERIFY” button.
    • Allow it to verify files.
