Starfield PC Controller Not Working on Steam
If your controller is not working in Starfield on PC via Steam, you are not alone. Starfield Early Access has just kicked off, with hundreds of thousands of players playing it on Steam ahead of its official release. However, it seems that those who want to play with Xbox, PS4, or PS5 controllers on PC are experiencing various issues. Here’s what we know about it.
Starfield PS4 or Xbox Controller is Not Working on PC (Steam)
Starfield early access has officially kicked off on both Xbox Series X/S and PC. And already, almost 300,000 players are playing the game on Steam as I write this. While many of these PC gamers prefer the mouse & keyboard approach, there are many who like to play with a controller, even on a PC. However, it seems that currently, controllers are not working in Starfield on Steam (PC). Namely, a number of players report that the game doesn’t detect their controllers. “I’m having problems using a PS5 controller on PC with Starfield,” wrote Reddit user LethalGrey. “Works fine with other games”. Other players are reporting similar experiences with other controllers. “I have my PS4 controller connected and can launch Starfield through big picture mode but then as soon as it launches my controller shuts off,” says Cankerstine.
Some players report that only some buttons are not working properly. For others, controllers are completely not working in Starfield on PC. So, is there a solution to this problem? While we can not guarantee that it will work for you, what has helped us is to turn off Steam input. Here’s how to do it:
- Right-click on Starfield in your Steam library.
- Select “Properties”.
- Head to “Controller”.
- Under “Override for Starfield”, in the drop-down menu, select “Disable Steam Input”.
