BG3 Returning Weapons

Baldur’s Gate 3 does a lot of interesting things with weapons, but one of the more unique aspects of using them is the ability to throw these objects. Of course, once you throw something, it either breaks, or you have to go and pick it up before you can use it again. However, there are weapons that are the exception to this rule. These so-called returning thrown weapons function like boomerangs, and they include the Returning Pike and the Nyrulna Trident. Here’s what you need to know about all the returning weapons in BG3, including where and how to get them.

How to Get BG3 Returning Weapons

At the time of writing this article, we have identified two weapons that return to the wielder once thrown. They are the Returning Pike and the Nyrulna Trident. If we find other weapons that also fit this criteria, we are going to then update this guide. So let’s start with the Returning Pike. You can get this weapon relatively early on in the game, as soon as you reach the Goblin Camp in Act 1. The trader there sells it. It’s advisable that you either purchase it – or steal it, if you can – before doing the Goblin Camp quest, as this will make the Goblins there hostile. Note that you won’t be able to get it by killing the Trader.

Next, the Nyrulna Trident. Far more powerful, and, as befits a Legendary weapon of its stature, you can only get it much later in the game – during Act 3. The process of obtaining it starts when you speak to Akabi at the Circus of the Last Days. It’s pretty difficult to obtain, as you can see in our Nyrulna Legendary Weapon guide. But both it and the Returning Pike can really benefit classes that can use throwing to deal a lot of damage – such as the Barbarian.
