BG3 Broken Moonlantern Explained and How to Fix Moonlantern

Before we learn about how to fix the Broken Moonlantern in BG3 or Baldur’s Gate 3, we need to explain what it is. Basically, it’s one way that you can fight your way through the cursed, foggy lands. However, the problem is that there’s no way to repair the broken moon lantern until you’re deep in the fog. Instead, you’ll have to use the Light cantrip, or a torch, or anything that emits light and make your way to the Last Light Inn. Talk to Jaheira to get a side quest. The group of enemies you have to ambush owns a working Moonlantern, so pick it up. You’ll find out that there’s a pixie in there that you can free, but that’s for a different guide.

So, now that we know what the item is supposed to do, how do you fix the Broken Moonlantern in Baldur’s Gate 3 or BG3? According to TiffanyGaming on Reddit, you need to go to the first floor of Moonrise Towers and Balthazar’s room. Interact only with the protruding book in the top right to open the altar. Pick up the item lying inside, place it into the slot it belongs in, and you’ll open a secret lab. Inside, you’ll find a bunch of broken lanterns and a dead pixie. You can combine the Broken Moonlantern with said pixie to repair it. Not that it’ll be necessary at all by this point, but you can always sell it, I suppose.
