What is The Dark Urge Origin in BG3

Basically, this is a character Origin that is not tied to any other existing Origin. For example, if you choose to play as Shadowheart, then you will be able to role-play her in the game – taking on her appearance and personality as a template and allowing you to make your own decisions while playing her. On the other hand, if you don’t choose her, she is still going to be available as a companion that you can recruit and use. The Dark Uge Origin is different – if you don’t choose it for your main character, you won’t be able to recruit anyone with this Origin in the game. To summerize, The Dark Urge is only available for your protagonist during character creation.

How Does the Dark Urge Origin Work in BG3

Unlike other Origins, which have pre-set looks and backstories, The Dark Urge is completely customizable. Simply put, this means that you can set this Origin’s appearance, class, race, and any other features about it to whatever you like. As many players in Early Access felt that they would be “missing out” on important gameplay content if they didn’t pick an Origin character – this represents the best of both worlds.

Note that, while The Dark Urge was represented in the Panel from Hell as a male White Dragonborn Monk, this was only done so that they could show off the new race and class. You can customize your own Dark Urge to look and play however you want. The Dark Urge also has a pretty intruiging story. Namely, TDU is an amnesiac that can’t remember anything about its past. All that it knows is that it posseses a powerful compulsion to commit violent and horrific deeds.

This is very similar to the temptations that the Bhaalspawn – the protagonist of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 – felt due to them being a child of the God of Murder. The cause of these Dark Urge impluses in BG3 is also very likely to be tied to Bhaal in one way or another. You can either give in to these impulses, or resist them. Finally, there is also a hellish minion by the name of Sceleritas Fel that is going to appear to you from time to time. Taking on the appearance of a creature that looks like a Goblin or Imp, it is going to try and persuade you to commit these foul and bloody actions.
