History of Baghdad Feature in Assassin’s Creed Mirage Explained

Ubisoft has always emphasised the importance of historical presentation for Assassin’s Creed. After all, Assassin’s Creed games depict different historical eras and regions, and one of the goals is to properly convey the feeling of living in that era of human history. Hence, the educational content is back with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This time around, it will be integrated into the game itself.

“In keeping with Assassin’s Creed Mirage being a tribute to early Assassin’s Creed games, History of Baghdad will be integrated into the main game,” reads the official announcement. “As Basim visits 66 historical sites throughout Baghdad, players will unlock research-driven articles. These will dig into information across five topics: Economy; Belief & Daily Life; Government; Art & Science; and Court Life.”

For the purpose of this feature, Ubisoft is closely cooperating with experts in Middle Eastern history and culture. Namely, Ubisoft is working closely with Dr. Glaire D. Anderson, founder of the University of Edinburgh’s Digital Lab for Islamic Visual Culture & Collections. Together with Dr. Raphaël Weyland, a historian working at Ubisoft Montreal, they carefully curate, collect and examine the historical content for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Their job is to make sure that everything is in coherence with the historical context of the setting.

Furthermore, images of real-life historical heritage is provided by various museums around the world. They will be presented in-game as a part of the feature.
