Elden Ring Deathroot Locations
Key Items are a special category of items in Elden Ring. These items are used to progress through the game, unlock new areas, solve quests, and so on. Unsurprisingly, the Deathroot is one such item. If you have found one of these, you may be curious what it is used for. This item has a very specific use, and, as we will see in this Elden Ring Deathroot Locations guide, you can only find it in several locations. So let’s dive right into it.
What is Deathroot Used For in Elden Ring
First, talk to D, Hunter of the Dead, who is at the Roundtable Hold. He will inform you that the Summonwater Village is home to an evil force. This force manifests in the form of the Tibia Mariner boss. Once you defeat this boss, he will drop a Deathroot. Go back to D and talk to him about it. He will inform you that this item is of interest to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman. This character can be found at the Bestial Sanctum, which is located in north-east Caelid. D will mark a teleporter location which will take you directly there.
This creature will offer to trade you items in exchange for Deathroot. These items include things such as Beast Eye, Beast Claw, Beast’s Roar, and similar stock. You cannot select what the Beast Clergyman will give you. Be warned when dealing with Gurranq. Once you give him the fourth Deathroot, he will attack you. You will need to bring down his HP until he regains his senses and stops attacking you. After that, you can deal with him normally again.
Deathroot Locations in Elden Ring
The most reliable way to get Deathroot is by killing the Tibia Mariner. Whenever you do this, this boss will drop a Deathroot. Since this boss is on a boat, he will always spawn in areas with water, such as ponds and swamps. You can also get it in other areas as well, sometimes you will need to battle the enemies there, and sometimes you will be able to run or sneak past them and claim the Deathroot without fighting them.
The Tibia Mariner can be found at the aforementioned Summonwater Village, Wyndham Ruins, and Liurnia of the Lakes. The other two places to get Deathroot are: the Deathtouched Catacombs (in a chest near the Black Knife Assassin), and in the Gelmir Hero’s Grave, in a chest behind Red Wolf of the Champion (whom you do not need to fight to get it). We have marked all five Deathroot locations in the screenshots below.
Very early in your exploration of Elden Ring world you will find out that you need to prepare your character for different tasks. You'll need to learn how to use Ashes of War, how to two-hand weapons, or use magic spells during the course of your adventures. Many secrets are also waiting for you, such as, a hostile NPC Sellen that doesn't let you see her shop, an invisible man in a bush, or a huge turtle with a bell that lets you duplicate some very important items.
