Elden Ring Stuttering & Frame Drops Fix

Elden Ring is now live on PC, but not everyone is able to have fun at launch. The game is being plagued by performance issues such as stuttering, frame drops, crashes, and so on. How to Fix Stuttering in Elden Ring?

The situation with Elden Ring’s performance is currently rather bleak. Players are reporting abysmally bad frame rates, sudden frame drops, and insufferable stuttering in Elden Ring. The stuttering is exceptionally painful at the moment, and it makes Elden Ring borderline unplayable on PC. Unfortunately, the core issue simply lies in the fact that Elden Ring is a very badly optimised PC port, and FromSoftware will need to act urgently and deploy several hotfixes in order to fix the stuttering problem.

Nonetheless, there are a few potential solutions that might help with mitigating frame drop problems in Elden Ring. The first thing you should do is to Verify the Integrity of Game Files on Steam.

• Right-click on Elden Ring in your Steam library
• Select “Properties…”
• Select the “Local Files” tab
• Click on the ” Verify integrity of game files..”
• Let Steam do it’s work
• When complete, restart your PC
• Launch Steam, and start Elden Ring

Disable Easy Anti-Cheat in Elden Ring

Elden Ring uses Easy Anti-Cheat to battle cheaters, and this software might be the main culprit for stutters and frame drops. Players are reporting that they’ve noticed significant performance improvements after they had disabled Easy Anti-Cheat. IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to play offline when Easy Anti-Cheat is disabled! Here’s how to disable it:

• Open Elden Ring’s folder on your drive (right-click on Elden Ring in your Steam library, then “Manage” and “Browse local files”)
• Make a text file there
• Name it “steam_appid.txt”
• Add “1245620” to it (without quotation marks, just the numbers!)
• Lunch the game by clicking directly on eldenring.exe, not through Stream

As we’ve mentioned, you won’t be able to play online, but if you are planning to only play solo, that should not be an issue. Hopefully, this will make the stuttering less painful.

Change Elden Ring Graphics Settings in Windows

Here’s another option that numerous players are reporting as a working one. This one requires you to change Graphics Settings for the eldenring.exe file in Windows.

• Search “graphics” in Windows bar search
• Click on “Graphics Settings”
• At the bottom, select “Desktop app”
• Click search and find eldenring.exe
• Click “Options” and select “High performance”

Disable Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator

Reddit user u/CrossbowJohnson has found another possible solution to fix stuttering in Elden Ring. Apparently, Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator can cause problems, and it should be disabled. Just make sure to enable it back again when you are not playing Elden Ring. Here’s how to disable/enable it from your desktop screen.

• Press Windows key + X simultaneously
• Select “Device Manager”
• Double-click on “Software devices”
• Right-click on “Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator”
• Select “Disable Device” (or “Enable Device”, when you enable it back)

See if this has fixed your Elden Ring stuttering issue. If stuttering and frame drops are still present, another thing you should do is to turn off apps such as MSI Afterburner and other similar PC optimisation apps, as they are known to cause issues in games.
