Cyberpunk 2077 Rebind Controls – Change Keybinds

The controls settings in Cyberpunk 2077 are severely lacking. If you’re playing the PC version with a gamepad, you’re stuck with the default control scheme, which is oftentimes far from the norm. If you’re using a keyboard and mouse, there’s a bunch of buttons you can’t use in your bindings – the game simply refuses to acknowledge them. Thankfully, there’s a way to get around it by editing a config file. If you’re wondering where to look and what to do, our Cyberpunk 2077 rebind controls guide will show you how to change keybinds with complete freedom.

How to rebind keys in Cyberpunk 2077?

If you want to use any of the buttons the game ignores in the settings, you’ll have to roll up your sleeves and edit a config file. First off, you need to find the file. Make sure to back it up in another location before making any changes, in case things go wrong:

  1. Go to the game’s install directory, then /r6/config
  2. Look for a file called inputUserMappings.xml
  3. Open it in Notepad++ or a similar program
  4. Ctrl+F to find the key you want to change (for instance, F is “IK=F”)
  5. Use the Replace All function to replace it with the key you want to use for that command
  6. Use this list as a reference for key names
  7. Make sure you’ve changed all instances where the key in question appears! If you don’t, it won’t work
  8. Save changes and run the game

You should also probably avoid changing the keybindings from the settings after you make these changes – the game could decided to overwrite your efforts when you do. Alternatively, save a copy of the updated .xml file as well as the original one – that way, if anything happens, you won’t have to do it by hand again.

I have a unique problem that not many people will have… I play LEFT handed with my mouse and I use my right hand for the NUMPAD keys to walk, jump etc…. The game wont allow me to bind NUMPAD ENTER for sprint (Which I have been doing for years in other games – with my pinky finger). I modified the config XML file and it still did not allow me to sprint with Numpad Enter. I cannot reach over with my right hand to the shift key to sprint. Any advice?

Hey Dean, I had the same problem, use “IK_Enter” this does both the regular Enter and Numpad Enter key.

You might want to mention to use exact find instead of just normal find cause you will end up replacing shift, space, and other items if you are moving S to a different bind. I replaced WASD with ESDF and messed up a few other keys.
