Star Wars Episode I Racer PS4 & Switch Remaster Delayed Again

The PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch remasters of Star Wars Episode I Racer have become the next project to get delayed due to COVID-19. The employees of the studio working on the remasters, Aspyr Media, are working from home, as they should be. That, however, means that the games simply can’t come out at the planned time. The announcement came just a day before the Switch port was supposed to come out.

When it was originally announced, Aspyr Media’s remaster of Star Wars Episode I Racer was supposed to launch on May 12th. Not too long after that, the developers moved the release date of the PS4 remaster to May 26th, without providing any real explanation. Well, that’s not happening, either. Due to the coronavirus, Aspyr’s employees are working from home. As a result, the Star Wars Episode I Racer remaster for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch won’t make the May 26th date, nor the May 12th date.

Here’s the full announcement, as it appears on Aspyr’s Twitter: “We are so excited to share Star Wars Episode l: Racer with you soon! Unfortunately, due to the ongoing work from home requirements across the industry, the game will be further delayed on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. We’ll be back with an update as soon as possible.” And, well, you don’t get much fairer than that, really. Better that the game is late than people get sick and die. Everyone can afford to wait a while in order to ultimately save lives.

Unfortunately, there’s no new launch date to look forward to; the devs will let you in on further details when they can. And it’s nice to see people in the responses that have so much understanding for the difficult situation that we’re all in. That said, they really could have made this announcement sooner, not one day before the planned release of the Switch version.
