Doom Eternal Battlemode Multiplayer Shown Off in New Video

Battlemode, Doom Eternal’s asymmetrical multiplayer mode, got a special spotlight in the new gameplay video from IGN. In the video, they talk with the game’s director, Hugo Martin, commenting over some really, really intense gameplay. It does a really good job of showing all the aspects of Battlemode, including various abilities that both sides have at their disposal.

In IGN’s video that we’ve embedded below, we get to see Doom Eternal’s Battlemode in full swing, and it looks like a blast. It pits one player as the Demon Slayer against two players playing as Demons. The goal for each side is to kill the other in order to win a round. It seems simple on the surface, but it definitely is not. Both sides have their drawbacks; the Slayer has to rely on skill, while the Demons have to play tactically and rely on teamwork. And both sides have abilities that can easily turn the tides of the battle.

What strikes me most about Battlemode is how balanced it seems. Of course, I can’t say for certain, of course, not having played it myself, but based on the video alone, it looks like the odds between the Slayer and the Demons are pretty even. Sure, the Doom Slayer is fully loaded, but he has to kill both demons in fifteen seconds, or else one of them will respawn. Plus, resource management is important. On the other hand, the Demons can heal and summon other monsters to help, but other than that, they’re much, much weaker.

Either way, the Battlemode looks like a ton of fun. And I’m sure that the players will find some sort of game-breaking meta in the first week, but oh well. We’ll have to wait and see on March 20th, when Doom Eternal launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia (and Switch later on). Personally, I can’t wait to dive straight in.
