Outer Worlds Nintendo Switch Port Delayed Due to Corona Virus

If you were banking on playing Outer Worlds on your Nintendo Switch, I’ve got some sad news for you. Due to the outbreak of the corona virus, the Chinese studio working on the port, Virtuos, had to temporarily close until it’s safe again. There is no new launch date as of yet, but publisher Private Division will announce it as soon as they have it.

The corona virus keeps disrupting normal life, and not just by killing people. The panic spreading about the disease has caused a lot of problems for Chinese businesses, as well. One such business ended up being Virtuos, the studio working on the Switch port of Outer Worlds. As publisher Private Division explained on Twitter: “We’re delaying Outer Worlds on Nintendo Switch due to the corona virus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development. We’ll now be releasing the physical version on cartridge. Once we have a new launch date, we’ll let you know!”

Now, if you’re worried about the folks over at Virtuos, you can relax to a degree. In a follow-up tweet, Private Division explained that the people are okay; it’s just that their office has to remain closed until further notice. The tweet goes on to say: “We’re working with the team to determine an updated development timeline, and will share more regarding a new launch date shortly.” So, yeah; while the good people at Virtuos are, at the time of writing, doing okay, the situation is still serious. Hopefully, the team members will be able to weather the virus.

So, there you have it. If you’re planning to play Outer Worlds on the Switch, you’re gonna have to be patient for a while longer; hopefully, not a long while. And, as a consolation prize, you’ll also have the option to purchase the physical version of the game on cartridge.
