Resident Evil 3 Remake Removing Mercenaries Mode & Multiple Endings
Out with (some) of the old and in with the new seems to be the motto behind Capcom’s recent remakes of Resident Evil games. With Resident Evil 3, they’ll be adding features like improved Nemesis AI, a new mode called Resistance, and other stuff. They’re also going to remove some aspects that fans of the originals might miss. Like, say, the Mercenaries mode and multiple endings.
Much like they did with their redo on Resident Evil 2, Capcom is going to switch things up significantly with the Resident Evil 3 remake. As we’ve covered in a previous article, they’ll be upgrading the AI of the Nemesis, allowing him to freely roam the map and also use weapons. Great. Also, it appears that they’ll be expanding on the role of Carlos, a main character that was only briefly playable in the original. And, with any luck, they’ll leave the god-awful voice acting as it was, so that a new generation can also have a good laugh.
Unfortunately, the developers will also be removing some features, too, according to Polygon. For one, they’re doing away with the Mercenaries mode. In the originals, this was an unlockable mode where you raced against the clock to escape Raccoon City as one of Carlos’s team of mercenaries. Shame that we won’t be seeing it again, it was pretty fun. It’s getting replaced with the online Resident Evil Resistance mode. We also have to say goodbye to the multiple endings. That one isn’t much of a loss, to be honest; the differences are ultimately unimportant in the grand scheme of things.
The remake of Resident Evil 3 is coming out on Friday, April 3rd, 2020. In other words, they’re catching the last train before Cyberpunk 2077 swoops in and wipes out everything in its path.
