Nintendo Shares the Best Moments of the Decade With an Evocative Visual Guide
Nintendo had a strong start at the beginning of this decade. The Wii was still selling like hotcakes and Super Mario Galaxy 2 was probably GOTY for 2010. Then the 3DS came and proved to be a massive hit, after the price reduction. But then, it all went downhill with the release of the Wii U. The company was in a tough spot for five whole years. Low sales, great games that weren’t played by anyone, and a massive slump in profits. If it weren’t for the 3DS and its stellar sales, who knows if Nintendo would be able to pull off its impressive return to shape with the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo of America Twitter account decided to share the most memorable moments of the decade with this evocative Visual Guide.
Nintendo had some great moments during the 2010s but the company didn’t forget about the Wii U
The image is filled with impressive moments. We have plenty of marvelous games from the company. Titles such as Zelda Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe pushed Nintendo Switch sales and allowed it to take the world by surprise. But the company also remembers overlooked classics such as Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
There’s even a spot for the Wii U, a console that flopped massively despite its strong first-party library of games. Nintendo also compliments new gaming mediums. Pokemon GO revolutionized mobile gaming. Amiibo figures ended up as an extremely successful line of toys that could be used in games. NES and SNES Classic consoles brought lots of joy to those who love playing classic video games. And Nintendo Labo is another example of the company’s constant tries to bring something new to gamers all over the world. Overall, this decade was a success for Nintendo. Which is praiseworthy if we consider the company lived through one of the biggest console flops of all time.
