Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Confirmed by CD Projekt Red
CD Projekt Red is gonna be treading a lot of new ground for them in Cyberpunk 2077. On top of a radically different setting, a customizable protagonist, and the first-person perspective, they’ve now announced that they’ll be introducing a multiplayer mode in the game. This will happen only once they’ve released all the planned single-player content, though, but still.
Well, time for me to eat my words. In a previous article, I said that, based on the rumors of the time, a multiplayer mode in Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t too likely to happen. Well, in a recent tweet from the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter, CD Projekt Red has shut me right up. In the post, they’ve confirmed that a multiplayer mode will indeed be a thing in the game, albeit way down the pipeline. The tweet also provides a link for people looking to lend their talents to the development of the multiplayer, so hop onto that if you want.
To quote the tweet directly: “Until now, the only thing we said about multi was that it was in R&D. As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer’s in the works!” In a follow-up tweet, they added: “The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we’re done — invite you for some multiplayer action.” So, there you have it. I guess this means that it’ll be a hot minute until they get to launching the multiplayer mode, but it is happening.
Cyberpunk 2077 is coming out on April 16th, 2020. You’ll be able to pick it up on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia. If you’re planning to play on PC, you can grab it via GOG, CDPR’s very own digital store and launcher.
