Borderlands 3 Won't Have Preloads on Epic Games Store
Some bad news for those of you that are gonna or already have picked up Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games Store. It seems that you won’t be able to preload the game from the store. As Tim Sweeney explains it, this is because their existing preload support isn’t enough to handle the likes of Borderlands 3.
As you probably are already aware, the PC version of Borderlands 3 is going to be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store. Specifically, it’s gonna stay exclusive for six months after launch. Needless to say, this has and still does annoy a bunch of people. And, the latest development is not gonna make things any better. As Tim Sweeney revealed on Twitter: “we won’t have support for preloading in the Borderlands release timeframe.” He went on to clarify: “We’ve released support for file preloading which is sufficient for some games, but we aren’t certain it’s up to the demands of a blockbuster like Borderlands.”
So, yeah; it’s not the fault of Gearbox; it’s just that the platform can’t handle it. Which, you know; it’s not exactly the end of the world. But then, preloading has become so ubiquitous, so many people will probably take it as another check mark against EGS. On the brighter side of things, according to GamingBolt, Borderlands 3 is gonna be bigger than 2. On top of the main mission, there will be side missions and challenges, such as rare spawns, enemy hunts, and crew challenges. And of course, just regular ole exploration.
Anyway, Borderlands 3 is coming out on Friday, September 13th, 2019. You’ll be able to play it on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And, let’s not forget Google Stadia. As you might expect, it’s up for pre-orders. I don’t condone that kind of behavior, but if that’s you’re thing, I ain’t gonna kink-shame you.
