Gris Coming To iOS Later This Month, Pre-Orders Available
Whenever a good game comes out on mobile devices, it deserves some attention. One such game is Gris, a beautiful and emotional platformer, and it’s coming out on iOS later in August; August 22nd, to be exact. It costs $5, and it’s already up for pre-orders, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Mobile phone games often get a bad rap, and deservedly so. Every now and again, though, there’s a good one that comes out, even if it is actually a port. Gris is going to launch on iOS on August 22nd, according to the App Store listing. It’s only gonna be five bucks, which is by far the cheapest you can get Gris for (it’s $17 on Steam, for comparison). You can play it on both iPhones and iPads, of course; as long as you’ve got iOS 10.0 or later.
Now, if you don’t know what Gris is, let’s get you up to speed. It’s a highly-artsy platformer. You play as a girl, exploring a gorgeous, watercolor world, collecting little bits of light to gain new abilities, and dodging a monster that seems to be devouring the world. I think the whole thing is a metaphor for depression, but I could be wrong. You can plug your own interpretation in; that’s how art works. True, symbolic platfromers are plentiful, and not all of them are as clever as they think, but Gris is one to pay attention to.
Gris originally launched on December 13th. It’s currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and macOS. If you want to get an eyeful and earful of the game, check out the reveal trailer below. It’ll give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from Gris. If you like artful platformers, then you might want to give this one a spin. For five bucks, you’ve got very little to lose.
