Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Pushed Back to October 1st

Shadowkeep, the upcoming expansion for Destiny 2, was supposed to launch on September 17th. That is no longer the case. The new release date for the DLC is on October 1st. The same goes for New Light, the free to play version of the game. But why? Why did it all happen? Why must we suffer so? Bungie offers some explanations in their latest blog post.

Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Pushed Back to October 1st

According to the post, they feel like both would benefit from “from a bit more time in the oven”. See, that’s the kind of thing you can do when you’re a tiny indie company like Bungie. However, they didn’t make the decision lightly – not because it’s unwise to make such business decisions lightly, but because of how it would affect you, the player. Yes, you. Bungie cares. They know some of you plan on taking leave from work or school in order to play the new DLC, and they wanted to let you know as early as possible, so you can postpone that bout of cold for another two weeks.

There’s some new info about other stuff in the post as well – not all is doom and gloom. For example, there’s the announcement that the Garden of Salvation raid will start on October 5th. They’re also extending the Moments of Triumph window of opportunity, because that’s the kind of thing you can do when you’re your own boss. You’ll have an extra three weeks to get it done, thanks to the fact Bungie isn’t beholden to a greedy corporation anymore. They’re going to squeeze in another round of Iron Banner starting on September 17th, and they’re going to release cross save at some point during the summer. Ah, the myriad benefits of financial independence, bless their little hearts.
