Crash Team Racing Adding Microtransactions in Early August
Activision has announced the next Grand Prix event in Crash Team Racing for early August. You can look forward to new content, including a dinosaur track, racers, karts; also, new rewards, challenges, the works. Oh, and microtransactions. Have we mentioned microtransactions? Because they’re adding microtransactions. Thank you, Activision, very cool; you sly little devils, you.
Crash Team Racing will be holding a new Grand Prix, starting on August 2nd, at 7:00 AM PDT (2:00 PM UTC). They’ll be adding a bunch of new content for the occasion. There’ll be a new, dinosaur-themed track. Also, new racers (Baby Crash, Coco, and T-rex) and kart sets (Probulot 2000, Mammoth, Nostalginator). On top of that, there will be new challenges, rewards, and more. That’s all well and good, right? Standard stuff for any cartoon racer: cute, cuddly characters, wacky vehicles, silly tracks… what could possibly go wrong?
Well, this is Activision we’re talking about. So, one is to expect that they’ll do something to ruin the whole thing. If you read through the announcement, you’ll come upon a paragraph that announces that microtransactions are coming to CTR in early August. It reads: “With all this content available, there will also now be a way for players to fast-track their Wumpa Coin collection if they like. Starting in early August, players will have the option to purchase Wumpa Coin bundles from their game console stores to supplement the Coins they earn by playing.”
Now, of course, they make sure to mention that you’ll still be able to earn Wumpa Coins through playing the game. You’ll just be “able to purchase additional coins if they choose.” See? They’re not milking you for all your money. They’re just giving you an option to milk you for all your money. That’s mighty sweet of them, isn’t it?
