Have you been watching Street Fighter V from the sidelines, but just didn’t want to shell out the cash sight-unseen? Well, nobody can blame you. There has been some serious shenanigans with the game that Capcom has been pulling. Connection problems, gating off beloved characters behind paywalls; whatever could cause a controversy happened. Then Mortal Kombat 11 came in with random Krypt chests, but that’s a different story. Anyway, yeah; if you’ve been avoiding purchasing Street Fighter V without at least giving it a spin, it’s perfectly understandable.

All this is to say, starting August 1st, you’ll be able to play Street Fighter V for free on the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. The trial period will last until August 11th, so that should be enough to give you a feeling of whether you want the game or not. You’ll have access to all sixteen characters that the game shipped with, plus the six that were introduced in Season 3. By introduced, I mean there are some classic characters like Blanka and Sagat that Capcom brought to SFV super-late in the game. But yeah, that’s a total of twenty-two characters; some of them old favorites, some brand new.

Now, this isn’t to say that it’s all perfect. Since you won’t have access to the fighters from Seasons 1 and 2, you won’t be able to play as some characters that you’d rightfully expect to be a given in a Street Fighter games. For example, if you want to play as Guile, you’re out of luck. But, hey, at least it’s free for ten days. Give it a spin; you’ve got nothing to lose, really.
