Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 is the Best-Selling Superhero Game in US
Just as San Diego Comic Con started, the NDP Group have released a list of top-ten best-selling superhero games in the U.S. And, wouldn’t you know it, Marvel’s Spider-Man, a PS4 exclusive, has risen to the first place on said list. It’s even beaten out what for many people is (or was) the king of the hill for most people: Arkham City.
According to a tweet from Mat Piscatella of the NPD group, Marvel’s Spider-Man has become the best-selling superhero video game of all time in the U.S. Ol’ Spidey has beaten out the likes of Arkham City, which is now in second place. Other entries in the top ten include Arkham Knight, Lego Batman and Marvel Super Heroes, Spider-Man: The Movie 1 and 2, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Arkham Asylum, and Injustice 2. That is some impressive competition, and the beloved wall-crawler has beaten them all into submission.
Now, this is impressive to me for several reasons. For one, the Arkham games have been praised as some of the best games of all time. Well, some of them; Asylum and City, to be exact. Three of them are in the top-ten. But, perhaps more importantly, all the other games in the top-ten have been multi-platform products. Spider-Man only came out on the PlayStation 4. So, this means that the combined power of Spider-Man and the PS4 were enough to dethrone a game about the goddamn Batman that came out on every conceivable platform across two generations.
Marvel’s Spider-Man came out on September 7th, 2018, and has been going fairly strong ever since. If you’re late to the party, and might be having some trouble with the game, I invite you to check out some of our guides on the matter.
