The Outer Worlds Will Have Classic Ending Slides
The Outer Worlds will have classic ending slides to show you the effects your choices had on the game’s world. The news comes from an interview co-director Leonard Boyarsky recently gave, in which he explains exactly how the whole thing will play out. Spoilers are extremely light, but if you want to go in blind, you have been warned.
The promotional materials have focused on the fact that your choices will affect the game, but we haven’t heard anything about how they’ll affect the ending until now. Speaking with VGC, Boyarsky explained the whole thing in detail:
At the end of the game there are slides to show how you affected different things. There are two basic paths at the end: whether you sided with Phineas or The Board. That’s kind of the first beat of the end: how that played out and what that choice was. After that you get a whole series of slides that talk about the results of your actions and the consequences of the choices you made throughout the whole game.
This makes it sound like there will be two big endings with fireworks and all that jazz, and then they’ll segue into ye olde Black Isle/Troika slides which explain how you changed the world with your actions. And honestly, that’s a great choice. It works. You get an explosive grand finale, and then a quite look at all the small ways life in the colonies changed thanks to your actions.
The Outer Worlds is going to be released on October 25th, on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There’s no mention of Nintendo Switch at the moment, but since it’s being published by a pretty big megacorporation, a port after release shouldn’t be entirely off the table.
