CD Projekt Red Working on Three Cyberpunk 2077 Projects
Waste not, want not, goes the proverb that I thing CD Projekt Red take to heart very much. Apparently, they have three different projects revolving around the Cyberpunk IP at the moment; one being Cyberpunk 2077, and two being God knows what. Also, there might be a multiplayer mode in the works for Cyberpunk 2077.
UPDATE: CD Projekt Red clarified the situation. As it turns out, the translation has failed. In an email to PC Gamer, CDPR writes: “We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077.” So, that’s that then. Apologies for the mistake.
CD Projekt Red, as a developer, is not one to waste an IP. With The Witcher, they did three games, with all the expansions, plus Gwent as a separate card game, plus Thronebreaker. And, it seems like they’re gonna make the most of the Cyberpunk property, too. According to an article on bankier.pl (and generous help from Google Translate), they’ve got three Cyberpunk projects going right now; one of them is, of course, is 2077, and there are two more in the works. In the words of the CDPR Vice President: “Our next big project will also be in the Cyberpunk universe, and we’re already working on it and treating it as a really big and innovative project for us.”
Now, what exactly those other games are going to be, we, of course, don’t know right now. And, if I were to guess, I’d say it’s gonna be quite a while until we do. Maybe it’ll be some sort of Cyber Gwent. Nah, I’m kidding; I’m going to assume that one of the projects is an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, but what the third one is, I can’t even begin to hazard a guess.
Another interesting little tidbit in the article is that, apparently, they have a team of forty people working in Wroclaw. Working on what, you ask? Well, unless Google Translate is making a fool of me, it seems like they’re developing a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077. Whether or not this is a miss-translation, we might have to wait for April 16th 2020 to find out.
