Shenmue 3 New Trailer Shows Off Some Combat Gameplay

The video opens with a kind of collage of different story snippets. I’m not gonna go into details, both for potential spoiler reasons, and because I have no idea what’s going on. Check out the video below if you want to see it. Then, we transition into the gameplay section, showing us some of the combat and… nothing else. This perplexes me. I thought one of the draws of Shenmue was all the stuff that you could do on the side. I was really hoping that they would show that stuff off, but nope. All we get is the combat, sadly. At least that looks kinda cool though the camera angles seem kinda confusing to me.

So, yeah; all in all, the video doesn’t really show much of the actual gameplay. All we get are the snippets of combat. Sure, I mean, it looks interesting, if a little disorienting, but I wanted more. Honestly, I’m not exactly sold on the whole thing right now. With the likes of Yakuza and even the recent Fist of the North Star game that took the Shenmue shtick and ran with it, Shenmue is going to have to try very, very hard to match them. Of course, it’s still early to make sweeping statements; for all I know, Shenmue 3 is going to be amazing. I’m looking forward to finding out in a couple of months.

Shenmue 3 is coming out on August 27th, 2019. It’ll be available on PC and PlayStation 4. Sorry, Xbox One players, you’re apparently gonna have to sit this one out. Perhaps you can hope for a port to your console if the game does well enough. Fingers crossed.
