Nintendo is preparing rewards for Tetris 99 players. The event, titled Tetris 99 Grand Prix, starts today, March 8th, at 14:00 CET, and ends on Monday, March 11th, at 07:59 CET. So, one weekend of madness. Every player that wins a match during this period will get a reward. The prize for those that come out on top? 999 Gold Points, which is the equivalent of €9.99. Not bad, I’d say; at least, for the amount of effort required. It’s not some grand tournament that would require some huge rewards. Ten bucks for a Tetris Victory Royale seems fair enough to me.

What is Tetris 99, I hear some of you ask? Believe it or not, it’s a Tetris Battle Royale. Yes, I know how that sounds, but apparently, it works great. Basically, up to 99 people play simultaneously. People that manage to clear several rows at the same time can then attack other players with garbage rows. The goal, as with any battle royale, is to knock out the other players and be the last one standing. If you’ve ever played two-player Tetris, it’s the same basic principle, just with a lot more people. It does honestly sound like fun.

Tetris 99 came out almost a month ago, on February 13th. It’s exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. So, you’ll also have to buy the Switch online pass. If what people have been saying about Tetris 99, I’d say that it’s worth the price, since the game itself is free. That’s entirely up to you to decide, of course.
