Gwent First Card Expansion, Crimson Curse, Announced
CD Projekt Red, the devs behind Gwent: The Witcher Card Game (who else would it be), have announced the first card expansion for the game. It’s slated for late March, and it will introduce over one hundred new cards to the game. The story of the expansion revolves around the vampire Dettlaff and his nefarious misdeeds.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game just keeps growing and growing, ever changing and introducing new elements. As any good collectible card game should, really. I have to admit, after CD Projekt Red released Thronebreaker, I thought that Gwent proper was going to get left behind. Boy, was I wrong. Not only is CDPR still working on the game tirelessly, they’ve also prepared a whole expansion pack, Crimson Curse. The expansion is coming out on March 28th, and it will introduce over a hundred new cards, including “31 neutral and 14 faction cards per each faction,” according to the announcement post.
The Crimson Curse card expansion will revolve around the vampire Dettlaff van der Eretein, and his dark magic throwing the world into chaos. Dettlaff has apparently performed some kind of horrible ritual. He turned the Moon red, for Pete’s sake; nothing good ever happens when the Moon is red. Brand new bloodthirsty monsters are waking up and wreaking havoc on the land. So, you’ll have a choice: join Dettlaff on his crusade, or stand against him.
What’s interesting here is that it seems to me that Dettlaff is going to be a new leader card. I’m wondering if that means that the devs are going to include him in the Monster faction, or if we’re staring down the barrel of a brand new faction. I’m like 99% sure it’s the former, but hey, we’ll see what happens. In the meantime, you can check out the brief trailer for the Crimson Curse expansion below. It doesn’t reveal much, but hints at a lot.
