Rocket League Finally Gets Full Cross-Platform Play, PS4 Included

Psyonix, the studio behind Rocket League, have announced that the game’s Cross-Platform Play Beta Program is currently up and running. There are some features still missing, but those will come with the first update of the year. There isn’t any info about said update just yet, sadly. In the meantime, though, everybody can enjoy what cross-platform play options are currently available. And, at long last, PS4 players will get to enjoy the fun.

Yes, it’s true. After Sony finally relenting on their inexplicable insistence on blocking cross-play, Rocket League fans on the PS4 are finally going to be free to play with everybody else. This was announced via blog post on the Rocket League website. Indeed, the Cross-Platform Play Beta Program is now in session in Rocket League. As the announcement puts it: “Players on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam can now randomly matchmake with or against each other in all Online match types (i.e. Casual, Competitive, and Extra Modes).”

Now, the Cross-Platform Play option should be on by default. If you want to check for yourself, first go to the Main Menu, then proceed to Options. Find the Cross-Platform Play option in the Gameplay section, and make sure that the box is checked. If (or once) it is, you’re good to go and play with the rest of the world. When it comes to cross-platform parties, that option is coming in the first update of the year, whenever it does drop. Before it does, though, you can still play cross-platform using private matches.

The post wraps with a sincere thank-you to the player base, saying: “It’s because of YOU, our fans, and our generous partners on all systems and services that have made this possible in the first place. On behalf of the entire team, THANK YOU for your passion and persistence as we continue to do our best to make Rocket League the best experience we can.”
