Pillars of Eternity 2 Still Arriving to Consoles Next Year
Console gamers, worry not: Pillars of Eternity 2 will be making its way to all major consoles next year. Despite Microsoft purchasing Obsidian, you’ll all get a swing at PoE 2. It’s going to come out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and even the Nintendo Switch. It’s going to ship with all free DLCs, expansions, and updates that the game gets up until the console launch.
Not too long ago, news broke that Microsoft has purchased Obsidian. One of the fears that this sparked was that the planned console release of Pillars of Eternity 2 might get stifled. Specifically, that Microsoft might put the kibosh on a PlayStation 4 and / or Nintendo Switch version. Not a very likely move, one might say, but weirder things have happened, you know?
Fo, if you check out the bottom of the post about the game’s new update, you’ll see that you have naught to fear. The post reads: “If you read our last update, we promised to have more information regarding Deadfire’s console release. As we stated, our partners at Grip Digital have been hard at work, and Deadfire will be releasing on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in 2019! We are pleased to also announce that the console edition will ship with all expansions, updates, and free DLC’s included at launch! We don’t have an exact date for you yet, but as soon as we have one, we will let you know!”
So, there you have it. Despite Microsoft taking Obsidian into the fold, the console editions of Pillars of Eternity 2 are still happening for everybody. No fears of that becoming an Xbox exclusive all of a sudden. I have a sinking feeling that some future Obsidian titles might suffer such a fate, but PoE 2 is safe. You’ll be able to get the game on all major consoles, with all of the extra content that has come out until now.
