Super Smash Bros Ultimate Patch 1.2.0 Released with Character Changes

Nintendo has released a new patch for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. This new update is going to bring your game up to version 1.2.0. The patch notes, while vague, do reveal some interesting stuff. Chief of the changes include adjustments to a bunch of characters, including Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Luigi, and others. The new patch also adds Eevee and Pikachu as spirits for those players that also own Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee.

Here are the full patch notes from Super Smash Bros Ultimate update 1.2.0, as they appear on Nintendo’s support website. As you might be used to by now, they’re a bit too vague for my liking, but oh well.

  • Offline Gameplay
    • Adjusted difficulty of approaching challengers.
  • Online Gameplay
    • When matchmaking in Quickplay, the Format setting of your Preferred Rules will be prioritized more. This may cause matchmaking to take more time. Also, there is no guarantee that matchmaking will be done exactly as shown in the set Preferred Rules.
    • Increased the stability of the synchronous connection within Battle Arenas.

NOTE: Online features require a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

  • Misc.
    • Game balance adjustments.
    • Various gameplay fixes.
    • The following fighters had specific adjustments and changes:
      • Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Luigi, Ice Climbers, Young Link, Olimar, Toon Link, Villager, Greninja, PAC-MAN, Duck Hunt, and Isabelle

On e thing that the patch notes don’t mention is that the new patch also introduces Pikachu and Eevee as spirits. That’s only for the people that have bought Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and/or Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee. Other than that, it seems like this update is going to change quite a bit about the game. This especially goes for the rebalancing of certain characters. It’s going to be interesting to see how this will impact the gameplay on top of the other “game balance adjustments.” What the exact changes are, you’ll have to discover for yourself.
