Red Dead Redemption 2 Ships over 17 Million Copies

According to Rockstar, Red Dead Redemption 2 is selling faster than hotcakes. In fact, they have shipped seventeen million copies of the game in just two weeks after launch. Sure, that doesn’t equate seventeen million copies sold, but we can reasonably assume that it will, and pretty fast at that.

To the surprise of nobody at all, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been selling insanely well. In fact, according to Polygon, Rockstar has shipped over 17 million copies of the game. Quite an impressive number, considering that the game is currently out only on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If it does make its way to PC (and I’m fairly confident it will, because who doesn’t like money), the figures are going to go even further up. And, for that matter, 17 million is also not likely to be the final number as is, not even close.

Let’s put this 17 million figure into some context. Sure, it’s still not GTA V numbers; literally nothing in the history of mass media is. But, compared to many games, even AAA ones, it’s pretty amazing. Consider, for example, the first Red Dead Redemption. That game has sold some 15 million copies across its lifetime, since 2010. Red Dead Redemption 2 has beaten that number in barely two weeks. Yes, I know that copies shipped does not mean copies sold. In other words, perhaps RDR2 hasn’t sold 17 million copies just yet. However, I think that it’s pretty safe to assume that it will, and fairly quickly.

And, well, it’s easy to see why the game is selling so well. Sure, the marketing was really good, but the game also earns it. If nothing else, it has a lot of content to sink your teeth into. And, we’ve covered a bunch of that stuff in our Red Dead Redemption 2 guides. Among many others, we’ve got How to Get to Mexico Glitch, Bayou Nwa Stranger Cabin – Go in or Not, and Torn Treasure Map Locations – Otis Miller’s Revolver.
