I’m pretty certain that Rocket League doesn’t need any special introduction. You play soccer (and other sports) with rocket-powered RC cars. What’s not to love? If you’ve been watching the game from the sidelines, wondering if you should enter the pitch, then this weekend will be the perfect opportunity. If you happen to be a PC (via Steam) or Xbox One gamer, that is. Unfortunately, PlayStation 4 players will have to sit this one out. I have a sneaking suspicion that it has something to do with Sony and their inexplicable insistence on blocking cross-platform play.

According to the announcement post, if you choose to take advantage of the free weekend, you’ll have “full access to all of our game modes, Playlists (Casual and Competitive), features and Arenas, including the new Salty Shores Arena,” which came out in May. The whole thing will start on Thursday, July 5th, at 10 AM PDT / 1 PM EDT / 7 PM CEST, and end on Monday, July 9th, at the same times. And, if you happen to like the game, you’ll be able to pick it up at a 50% discount, as well as select DLCs. Both sales are going to end on July 9th, so you’ll have to purchase Rocket League during the free weekend if you want that discount. I say both, because the PlayStation is not getting the discounts either, it seems.

So, if you want to check out Rocket League for free on PC or Xbox One, make sure to check out the free weekend (plus the few extra days). And, if you like what you see, pick it up at a substantial discount.
