Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Reveal Trailer Shows Combat, Bosses, Story
From Software has unveiled another one of their upcoming games, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The game takes place in Sengoku Japan, at the time of constant upheaval, where you will face “larger than life foes in a dark and twisted world.” So, a little bit like Dark Souls in feudal Japan, but with a grappling hook? I can get behind that.
From Software might be exploring new ground with their PSVR game Déraciné, but they’re still sticking to their strengths as well. Hence, we get another action RPG in their classic style, just in the setting of medieval Japan. The game in question is, of course, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Judging solely by the trailer for the game, which you can check out below, it still brings the oppressive atmosphere that we’ve come to expect with From Software games, but also some new mechanics to spice it all up.
The tagline of the game is: “Take revenge. Restore your honor. Kill ingeniously.” That in and off itself should be more than enough to entice you. The trailer itself gives us glimpses of the story and setting of Sekiro, as well as tiny little slivers of gameplay. The main character has a prosthetic arm, which seems to have multiple purposes, from storing an off-hand weapon to a grappling hook, which you can use to propel yourself across the stage. The video description states: “Unleash an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities while you blend stealth, vertical traversal, and visceral head to head combat in a bloody confrontation.” Not to mention the horrifying-looking boss monsters. Sign me right up.
Now, it’s true that Nioh also kinda took some elements of Dark Souls and put it in feudal Japan, but personally, I can’t wait to see what From Software does with it. Especially considering the new mechanics, like the vertical traversal via grappling hook, as well as the stealth element. We’ll have to wait until early 2019 for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to come out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam). If you want to, you can already pre-order the game. Until then, the trailer will have to do.
