Gwent Patch Adds Ten New Cards and Arena Mode

A new patch for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is out, and the contents are pretty exciting. For one, there are ten new cards, neutral and faction-specific. The main draw, however, is the new Arena Mode. The rules of the game are completely different here, and it sounds like a ton of fun.

Gwent Patch Adds Ten New Cards and Arena Mode

Gwent players can now take part in a brand new mode, called Arena Mode. The rules for this mode are completely different from the main game. You can build a deck from any cards you want, and you can use as many copies of the same card as you want. You add up to 26 cards to the deck, “each chosen out of 4 random cards from GWENT’s entire collection,” and, of course, a Leader. The game is over once you win nine games, or lose three. The more opponents you beat, the better your reward at the end.

To enter Arena Mode, you have to pay Gaunter O’Dimm. The currency he accepts are Mirror Shards, which is a new “consumable” item in Gwent. You can purchase Mirror Shards for either 150 Ore or $1.99, if you’d prefer to just use real-world money. To start you off, Team Gwent will be throwing some free Mirror Shards your way. Until March 7th, all players that log into Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will receive three Mirror Shards. More than enough to see if you like Arena Mode, and if you’d like to keep playing.

As for the rest of the patch, it adds ten new cards to the game; five for the Neutral section, and one for each of the different factions. Aside from that, there’s a list of bug fixes, some of which target specific cards that haven’t been acting as intended. For the full patch notes, check out the post on the official Gwent website.
