Squadron 42 System Requirements Are Vague, Yet Demanding

The system requirements for Squadron 42, the singleplayer Star Citizen spin-off, have been revealed. The official website has been updated to show a list of specs you’ll need in order to run the ambitious space opera. The specs are more than a bit vague, but they still somehow manage to be a cause for concern. Apparently, the game is going to be something of a resource hog.

Squadron 42 System Requirements Are Vague, Yet Demanding

The site doesn’t specify whether these are the minimum requirements, but it’s safe to assume they are. Here’s what you’ll need to have under the hood in order to run Squadron 42:

OS: Windows 7 (64bit) with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 (64bit), Windows 10 – Anniversary Update (64bit)
CPU: Quad Core
GPU: 2GB VRAM (4GB strongly recommended), DirectX 11 support
RAM: 16GB or more
Storage: SSD strongly recommended

Nothing unusual in the OS department. However, the CPU requirements couldn’t possibly be more vague. Even the crummiest processors from the latest generation of Intel have four physical cores, so “quad core” is hardly a useful descriptor nowadays. A graphics card with 2 GB VRAM and DX11 support will suffice, although you’ll have to tone the settings down a bit. The worst part are probably the RAM requirements – as you can see 16 GB is the minimum, which is a first as far as we know.

Many players will have to upgrade – at least chuck some more RAM in their rigs – in order to play Squadron 42 comfortably. Since DDR4 prices are kind of going crazy at the moment, we wouldn’t want to be in their shoes. In other Star Citizen news, it seems like Cloud Imperium are now selling tanks as well as spaceships and plots of land. The latest shop addition was revealed to VIP users not long ago, and is expected to be properly announced any time now.
