Harry Potter Wizards Unite AR Game Announced By Niantic
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, a new augmented reality game, has been announced by Niantic. In the game, you’ll be walking through the real world, much like in Pokemon GO, learning spells, fighting magical creatures, and battling enemies with your friends. To make the game, Niantic will be working with the San Francisco development team of WB Games.
Niantic, the creators of Pokemon GO, have announced that they’re working on a brand new game. Not only that, but they’re partnering up with WB Games development team from San Francisco to make a Harry Potter AR Game, named Wizards Unite. According to the announcement on their website, players will “learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies.” Sounds pretty much like Pokemon GO with a Harry Potter overlay, but that’s a bit overly cynical, I admit. And, even if that were the case, it still sounds kinda interesting.
Now, it’s interesting to observe people’s reactions to this announcement, especially on Niantic’s Twitter. A bunch of people are extremely excited at the news. Pretty natural; what Harry Potter fan wouldn’t want to be able to play this game? On the other hand, though, there’s a ton of disgruntled Pokemon GO (and even some Ingress) players piping up. They’re up in arms over Niantic starting on a new game, while PoGO is still in a pretty broken state, with a large number of promised content still being absent. And, you know what, they make a pretty good point. Hopefully, they’ll be able to work on both games equally. I know that I’ll certainly give Harry Potter: Wizards Unite a go when it comes out. That being said, come on, Niantic. Fix Pokemon GO already, please.
